Meet Jasmine Matthews!

Hey Girls!

It's Spotlight Thursday again and this week we get to meet Jasmine Matthews!

Jasmine has been in the ward on and off for about 1-1/2 years. She graduates this semester and will enjoy maybe doing personal training but will still be teaching group fitness classes at a gym in Salt Lake.

Jasmine met her husband at his homecoming. Her friends knew him, and they all had a lot of friends on missions, so they decided to send a funny Christmas card to all of them. One of her friends said to send it to Dave, (who is now Jasmine's husband) and when he got it, he said he wanted to write the red head in the picture.  They wrote a little bit and then when he came home they started dating.

Jasmine loves working out, cooking, cleaning, hanging out with family, reading, and going on trips. She also has a small cooking blog for family members or anyone else that wants to view it on recipe ideas and step-by-step photos for how to make it!
She likes basically any type of food as long as it’s light on the cheese! But she'd probably pick a burger and fries if it wasn’t bad for you.

Something interesting about Jasmine is her first year of college she actually went to the University of Utah, and didn’t like it so she transferred to BYU.

Unbroken is one of her favorite books, and also any Nicholas Sparks books. She loves the Batman trilogy, Parks and Rec, The Office, One Tree Hill, and The OC.

She loves music of almost all genres except country :)

Relief Society Lesson this Week - Temples!

The lesson today was on temples and teaching us how to answer our own questions. We were encouraged to please attend the temple as often as possible. The temple is a gathering place for the saints to receive further light and knowledge.  The endowment is the key that empowers us and helps us fight against the adversary. The lord teaches us in symbolism so that we will learn what we are capable of learning at that time. When you go focus on the feelings you have and seek to learn something new.

We have lots of resources to help answer our questions.

Sopapilla Cheesecake

This stuff is so easy to make and tastes DELICIOUS!! Enjoy!

Sopapilla Cheesecake
Recipe from My Yellow Umbrella

Ingredients:
-2 cans pillsbury butter crescent rolls (buy the seamless version if you can find them!)
-2 (8oz) packages cream cheese (softened)
-1 cup sugar
-1 teaspoon vanilla
-1/4 cup butter (melted)
-Cinnamon and sugar (I used about 1/4 cup sugar and 1 tbs cinnamon)

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. If you are using a glass pan, adjust the temperature to 325 degrees. Unroll and spread one can of crescent rolls on bottom of ungreased 9x13 inch pan.  If you aren't using the seamless crescents, be sure to smooth out the seams before adding the filling. Combine softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla in a bowl. Spread mixture over crescent rolls. Unroll and spread remaining crescent rolls over mixture, being sure to press together any seams. Spread melted butter over the top and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Bake for 20-30 minutes.

Spotlight: Meet Emily Jensen!!

Meet Emily Jensen!

She has been in our ward for 2 1/2 years so she's one of the veterans.

Right now she is trying to make the most of life. She is studying at UVU to get the required prerequisites for medical school which she hopes to apply to in May. Among that journey she tries to find time to help serve others, carry out wife duties, spend quality time with the hubby (usually outdoors), and then have some alone time to relax (work out, read a good book, dance, etc.)

Emily and her husband met on hot tubbing Tuesdays at the Branbury Apartments in Provo. Shawn was visiting his friend who lived in the complex and she and her roommate met them that night at that event. According to Emily, Shawn was pretty clueless so she was the main initiator in the relationship "I had to chase him, which wasn't something I was used to doing but was happy how it turned out!".

She enjoys a variety of hobbies: exercising, reading, hiking, snowboarding, cooking/baking, fishing, dancing, writing, gardening, and having a good time. Her all-time favorite foods in life are popcorn and salad!

Something most people don't know about Emily is she has a very odd talent of being able to purr, legitimately. She doesn't remember how she found out that she could but she's pretty sure it came from some scarring that occurred from a surgery she had on her neck when she was 6.

Emily loves suspense/mystery books and any clean romance ones, every once and awhile she slips a fantasy one in as well. Her favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice ( the BBC 6 hour version but she likes the most recent one too). Some of her favorite TV shows are Criminal Minds, Grey's Anatomy, and Modern Family.

Ward Conference Relief Society

Since this Sunday was Ward Conference the Stake Relief Society Presidency taught us about keeping our covenants.

"Covenant Keeping Women are a Powerful Force in the Kingdom of God"

How can we become a powerful force in the Kingdom of God by keeping our Covenants as individuals?

  • Modest Dress
  • The way we treat others
  • Education. Teaching our children the Lord's standards
  • Use the Manual "For the Strength of Youth"
  • The way we decorate and run our homes
  • Be organized; both literally and figuratively
  • Take time for Spirituality
  • Have a house of prayer
  • Have quite time
  • Unplug from the media/ be receptive to the spirit

How are we a powerful force as a whole relief society?

  • We all have a role to play in Relief Society
  • Even if you're not part of a committee, you're still a visiting teacher
  • We help uplift each other
  • No one is forgotten
  • We can share the gospel with each other & the world
  • Visiting Teaching

Never forget that Relief Society is the largest organization in the WORLD!

52 Weeks to an Organized Home Challenge

There's no better time than the beginning of the year to make plans for organizing your home. This list is AWESOME. It covers almost everything you can think of. The best part is, it breaks things down into small things to do each week to clean/organize your home so its totally manageable. Enjoy!
